Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr & Claverack’s First Courthouse

Hamilton fans, this one’s for you…

Long before the stage, Alexander Hamilton was right here in Claverack, arguing cases at the county’s first courthouse.

Yes, that Hamilton. And Aaron Burr, his infamous rival, stood here too.

Martin Van Buren, later the 8th President of the United States, was also admitted to the bar in this very building.

In 1805, the court moved to Hudson, but the history remains.

Have you ever passed this building or noticed the historic marker?
