CHS Promotes a Tour of Olde York Farm and Cooperage: Historic Home of Jacob Rusten Van Rensselaer

The Claverack Historical Society will co-host a free tour of the Olde York Farm Distillery and Cooperage on June 16th at 11:00 AM. The tour will be held at the farm, located at 284 State Route 23 across from the Red Mill in Claverack.

Olde York Farm is part of the historic Jacob Rusten Van Rensselaer House and mill complex. Rensselaer’s former distillery and cooperage dates back to 1805. The restored carriage house is the site of this farm to cask process, and the owners Stuart, Louise and Sophie Newsome will provide their amazing story. The Newsomes will show how a limited release of small batches of spirits are distilled using local ingredients, as well as, the manufacturing of their own oak barrels which they use to age the bourbon, whiskey and brandy.

Come and see the distillery and cooperage process and partake in a free tasting of some of the products produced right here in Claverack. You must be 21 years of age to participate in the tasting.
